You are looking at 4 hours to Morelia on a great road and 4 hours more on really bad roads. I would suggest overnighting in Morelia and taking one of the tour buses--it's a grueling drive and the tours are relatively inexpensive compared to the wear and tear on yourself and vehicle. You want to enjoy the day--not be exhausted from the drive.
